Let me begin by saying that I did not find adding a blog to my website very easy! I hope that you will find this blog informative, and that you will be more aware of what is being done to your nails when you have a manicure. Lets start with my first blog!
Shellac has become the common term for any gel polish. You go into a salon at the local shopping centre and you ask for Shellac, all fine you think. You don't look at the bottle, you just have the polish put on and you think you have Shellac on your nails. WRONG, in actual fact there is only one Shellac, it is the trademark of CND who created Shellac. As CND were the first with this type of polish, over the past few years it has become the common name that people, including some salons, call any gel polish.
What you are having put on your nails is often another brand of polish! There are numerous gel polishes on the market, but there is only one Shellac, and that is CND. A tip for you, if you go into a salon and ask for Shellac, ask to see the bottle. If it is not CND Shellac, you can now inform them that you asked for Shellac, not a gel polish of another brand.
You may also find that the colour polish that is applied is in fact Shellac, but Shellac is designed to be used as a system, that is, base coat, colour coat and top coat should all be Shellac, not a mixture of brands. This often happens as an inferior cheaper product is used as the base and top coat to keep the cost down.
The number of clients that tell me they have Shellac on, and it is not. This I normally find out when I start to remove the polish, or I know it is not a Shellac colour. The other interesting part is that Shellac soaks off in 10 minutes without having to file the top coat prior to soaking. Some of the other brands I have soaked for over 20 minutes then had to file some of the polish off and then soak again until all the product is removed. Very time consuming!
So when you next go into the local nail salon at the shopping centre, just ask some questions before you have your polish applied to make sure you are getting what you asked and paid for.
Hope this has been helpful.
